Rabbit Hole Distillery Tour

Rabbit Hole Distillery is one of the newer additions to the Kentucky Bourbon Trail and is widely recognized for its iconic, modern architecture. Located along the historic Whiskey Row in the NuLu area of downtown Louisville. This distillery blends contemporary design with the heritage of Kentucky bourbon. During winter months (January and February), tours are typically offered Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., though visitors are encouraged to check their Instagram for updates, as special events may alter regular hours. Several tour options are available, with pricing beginning at $32 per person; specific offerings and details can be found on their website. A standout feature, especially downtown, is their free adjacent parking lot, a notable convenience in an area where parking is often metered or garage-based.

Our group of five visited on a Saturday afternoon in early February, a welcome outing after weeks of snow and winter confinement. We selected the Rabbit Hole Distillery Signature Tour 2026. We were greeted with our choice of one of two curated bourbon cocktails before the tour began. Entry to the gift shop and tour space is available from both the front and back of the building. We chose the rear entrance due to its proximity to accessible parking and its no-step entry which is an important feature for Cole’s mobility needs. The front entrance is has stairs with a handrail.

The distillery’s aesthetic is upscale and modern, reminiscent of an urban loft or flat. The space feels airy and sophisticated, though the hard surfaces produce a light echo, particularly when voices carry in open areas. Walkways throughout the gift shop and tour route were generally wide, with only a few narrower transitions.

The tour itself was casual, flexible, and tailored to the group’s interests. Stops included viewing production areas, asking questions, and tasting various bourbons. Because we visited on a Saturday, active production was not running, as distilling operations typically occur during the week. The flexibility of the tour format worked well for Cole, allowing him to take breaks on benches or step aside for conversation as needed.

The distillery spans three levels and includes elevator access to each floor. However, one tasting location was positioned on a landing between the second and third floors, accessible via metal stairs. While Cole is able to navigate stairs with a railing and support, he chose to take the elevator directly to the third floor and skip the tasting on the landing. Instead, he enjoyed a quiet break overlooking the tour from above. The experience concluded in a glass-enclosed tasting room behind the elegant bar at the Overlook. After the formal tour ended, we relaxed in the comfortable couch seating area while enjoying views of downtown Louisville. In warmer months, a small balcony with seating offers an outdoor option as well as a nice outdoor patio located on the first floor off the gift shop entrance.

Staff interactions throughout our visit were positive. The team was friendly and knowledgeable, and our tour guide was accommodating in using Cole’s personal mini-mic during the structured portions of the tour. As the tour shifted into more informal discussion and exploration, Cole opted to discontinue use of the mini-mic, as it amplified side conversations that made it difficult for him to focus on his group.

From a low vision and mobility perspective, Cole was able to view production areas through large glass windows and walk close to the stills, allowing him to both see and feel the equipment. He used his white cane throughout the visit and found the smooth flooring conducive to easy navigation with the exception of the production area. Cole did require assistance of a companion while navigating the production area as the walkways were narrow in areas.

Overall, our group enjoyed the tour and found the Overlook bar to be a relaxing and elegant way to conclude the experience. We would recommend this tour to those who appreciate a flexible, conversational format in a sophisticated industrial setting. While the layout worked well for Cole, even with skipping the stair-access tasting, individuals with mobility concerns or wheelchair users may wish to contact the distillery in advance or request accommodations during online booking to ensure the experience aligns with their specific needs. Our goal in sharing this review is to provide insight so others can determine whether the physical layout, structure, and sensory environment will work well for them, regardless of ability.

Rating 4: Enjoyed the overall experience, flexibility, and the friendly staff but experience may have been enhanced if the tasting on the landing was in a location that is accessible for all regardless of their mobility needs. We would have preferred to attend the tour on a day when the distillery was in production.
